Polka Dots Where Are You?

So I’ve been noticing fashion trends the last little while, and notice that stripes, flannel, and checkers seem to be the most “hip” clothing pattern trends as of late. Which is fine by me, who am I to make a huge fuss about these patterns when I myself tend cling to a flannel plaid shirt when I chop wood on a bimonthly basis. Or when I go swimming in the Mill Pond with my full body swimsuit that happens to be draped in stripes. And checkers… hmmm… I just… (Tapping pointer finger against my lips) I guess I just don’t have any place in my wardrobe for them.

So what I’m really getting at is, where have Polka Dots gone? Huh? I can’t seem to find them anywhere. At one point in time they seemed to grace us with their presence at every turn. The mid 90’s totally embraced the Polka Dot pattern. 1960 song ”Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” by Brian Hyland seemed to have found it’s way back to American airwaves, and American hearts. Also, “Dots” the delicious gummy candy was the Halloween favorite amongst children as they sorted out their Trick-or-Treat bags Halloween night.

Even Disney caught onto the trend by releasing the live action version of “101 Dalmatians” starring 5 time Oscar nominated actress Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil. My uncle even got Polka Dot fever by buying a Dalmatian puppy. But, just like the American people my uncle grew tiered of the fad, and euthanized the dog.

I have hope though. In the 90’s we went through the faze of Grunge Rock where everyone wore flannel as they do now, until a shot gun blast to the head of a rock legend ended it over night. And there was Polka Dots waiting to fill the void. So in due time I believe Polka Dots will make a come back. So until then I’ll be listening for that shot gun blast out there to let me know it’s time.

Until next time

It's Me, Fun E. Fred

Well I’ve finally decided to start a blog. For those of you who don’t know me I’m Fun E. Fred. Or the name that appears on my birth certificate Earl Chester Fredrickson. The reason for my nickname is I’m all about fun. However around Easter every year my nickname takes on a whole new meaning. It’s the Genesis of the nickname, when I was a young tyke my favorite holiday was Easter, so my mom started calling me Easter Fred. The thought of spring starting, pastel colors making a come back from the dead of winter, and the sugary marshmallow candies would drive any boy with a bad case of static electricity hair (yes, when I was a boy my hair was always standing up tall, due to my obsession of rubbing balloons on my head for hours at a time. Don’t worry I’m over that now.) wild for the holiday that is Easter.

Besides fun I’m a real movie buff, my favorite film is the 1984 blockbuster “Red Dawn”. Something about teenagers fighting against the Soviets during the Cold War just resonates with me.

I also like spending time with my best buddy in the whole world. His name is Vince, he is a 7-year-old dachshund. He has really bad arthritis so I’ve nicknamed him “Arthur”. Vince (Arthur) loves Cool Ranch Doritos, and bubble baths. Cracks me up when he peaks his little pointy nose out from the bubbles in the bath to snack on some chips

Well that’s my first post and I’m exhausted. Vince and me are going to go watch “Red Dawn” and eat Doritos. Until next time, take care.
